An Art Exhibit for a Cause

As Cebu joins the nation in taking steps towards the “now normal,” at this point of the Covid-19 situation, the local creative arts sphere is gearing to do just about the same. By Yasunari Ramon Suarez Taguchi

Driving this point home is a crop of digital-only and hybrid in-venue-and-digital exhibits that have and are to open in the weeks to come, the most recent to open of which is a benefit exhibit staged by artists from Argao.

Simply titled “Art Exhibit for a Cause,” the show opened on the first Saturday of September at the Sunshine Beach Club’s “Studio 201” space in the Baha-Baha, Poblacion district of Argao, Cebu.

Twenty-five works made by established and up-andcoming Argaoanon artists make up the hybrid in-venueand-digital exhibit, which runs by an open “anything goes” theme that presents the gamut of creative motifs and themes its exhibiting artists are currently embracing.

Covering works that are narrative-representational in tone, works that ply the abstract expressionist route and pieces that shift between neo-expressionist and pop-art leanings, the show can collectively be characterized as inherently fauvistand-futurist in temper.

It goes beyond presenting how artists from Argao are flexing their creative mettles, as it serves as a vantage point that indexes how comparably progressive the creative views of Argaoanon artists are with those who are based in Metro Cebu.

The show is a fundraiser organized by the Ar+gaw organization of Arago-based artists. It aims to raise funds for the members of the group to participate in the upcoming “Visayas Art Fair 2021” this November. The upcoming fair is a highlight of this year’s edition of the annual Cebu Design Week organized by the Cebu Furniture Industries Foundation in collaboration with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts.

“Art Exhibit for a Cause” is the first exhibit organized by the Ar+gaw organization, and it can be viewed online via the organization’s official Facebook page.
