“Fashion Equinox: Season 3”
A crop of modelling debutants walked the walk last October 17 in an event that drew the spotlight on the evolving stylistic sensibilities of local up-and-coming designers. Billed “Fashion Equinox: Season 3” and staged at the grand ballroom of Golden Peak Hotel, the event ran by a crossculture theme which gave it a Japanesque feel that defined how progressive the views of Cebu’s young designers are.
Designs by Cebu’s Ia Coca, Eva Auguspina, Izhar Pepito, July Bicari, Eve Navales, Yoko Sato, Ryan Dumago, Sheena Si, Griffins Malazarte and Rachel Rama were showcased in the event. Their creations were presented with the inseason lines of various local fashion labels, and each of the featured pieces were modelled by the graduates of a recently concluded modelling workshop.
Collectively, the show’s pieces integrated aspects of traditional Japanese couture with contemporary fashion’s predilection for sleek lines and sharp silhouettes. From kimono-inspired ensembles rendered as jumpsuits to novel translations of the hakama (a type of kimono) as corporate wear, most of the event’s designs resembled contemporary takes on A-Line cuts and knifepleated skirts, along with androgynous interpretations of various types of designs.
“Fashion Equinox 3” was molded from a partnership between three Cebu-based modelling/talent agencies – VEE Models & Talent Management, Stacys Model Management, and JF Model Management. It took after the “Tropical Temptation” fashion show (held in July) and the “Red Mask” fashion show (in January) as a “now normal” fashion show that welcomed new faces and presented new designs by Cebuano designers.
