Cebu teams suffer contrasting fates
Sarok Weavers seal No.1 spot; Chiefs crash out of PSL hoop
Cebu teams Consolacion Sarok Weavers and ARQ Builders Lapu-Lapu City Chiefs figured in contrasting fates in the Pilipinas Super League (PSL) Under 21 Aspirants Division Invitational Cup yesterday at the President Manuel A. Roxas Sports Complex in Roxas, Zamboanga del Norte.
Exhibiting great team effort once again, the Sarok Weavers ended their elimination round campaign with a ruthless 96-72 demolition of the Iligan City Archangels to officially clinch the No.1 seed with a 6-1 win-loss record going into the Final Four.
Do-it-all center Rojan Montemayor came up with another double-double show of 18 points and 11 rebounds for the Consolacionanons.
Spunky guard Gyle Patrick Montano also tallied 18 markers on top of six rebounds and nine assists, while Keaton Taburnal and John Paolo Dalumpines connived for 23 points, seven rebounds and six assists for the Sarok Weavers, who will enjoy twice-to-beat advantage against the fourth-ranked Sealcor Cagayan de Oro Kingfishers in today’s crossover semifinals.
The other semis duel pits the twice-to-beat Roxas Vanguards against the third seeded Bukidnon Cowboys. They both finished the classification stage with 5-2 slates but the Vanguards took the No.2 spot by virtue of winner over the other rule.
The Vanguards were responsible for eliminating the Chiefs via a 79-64 rout in their do-or-die duel.
ARQ Lapu-Lapu actually figured in a three-way tie with Sealcor CDO and the Kapatagan Buffalos on identical 3-4 cards but the Oponganon ballers got the lowest quotient and in the process bow out of the tournament together with the Buffalos.
Had the Chiefs won, they would have been the No.3 seed in the semis.
