Margot to revive Long Life Program

-

Cebu City mayoral candidate Margarita “Margot” Osmeña said that should she wins in the elections, she will revive the Long Life Program first started by her husband, former mayor Tomas Osmeña.

Margot, who is a former city councilor and now the standard bearer of Bando Osmeña-Pundok Kauswagan (BOPK), said that this is among her plans if given the chance to serve the Queen City of the South as a mayor.

Long Life Program is the distribution of medicines to the homes of the sick and elderly residents of the city. The beneficiaries get free medicines every day.

This was the first program Tomas implemented when he returned to City Hall in June 2016. Among the beneficiaries include those suffering from hypertension, diabetes, and arthritis.

During that time, Cebu City was the only local government unit that has the project.

More than 40,000 people have previously benefited from the program.

“Dunay uban nga dili katumar sa ilang gi-maintain nga tambal kay nag-agad ra gyud sa budget. Pinaagi sa Long Life, atoa sila nga matabangan,” said Margot.

Margot said that aside from being a good health program, it also provides opportunities for young people to earn an income.

She said the youths who deliver the medicine are provided with allowance.

On the other hand, also among Margot’s plans is the implementation of the Cebu Bus Rapid Transit (BRT).

She said it has been awhile since the implementation project was being planned but still it is yet to be realized.

Margot said it should be continued so as not to put to waste the plans that were already started regarding the matter. —
