With Cebu City remaining under Alert Level 1 until the end of May, Cebu City Councilor Joel Garganera is reminding the public to remain vigilant and not to be complacent even if the active COVID-19 cases in the city remains low.

The Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) still placed the city under the loosest form of COVID-19 restrictions.

"COVID is still around. Malipay ta (that cases continue to drop), but then again we should not be complacent. Let us be mindful gihapon nga si COVID is still around," said Garganera, deputy chief implementer of the Emergency Operations Center (EOC).

Per the EOC data, as of May 15, 2022, the city has 27 active cases. Of the 467 individuals tested, only two found positive, giving a 0.43 percent daily positivity rate.

The total number of recoveries is at 53,337 after recording two additional recoveries. The data shows that no new deaths for the month of May.

Garganera said before the May 9, 2022 elections, the city had 45 active COVID-19 cases. He added that no new transmissions were also reported in 67 of the city's 80 barangays from May 5 to May 14.

"I don't buy the idea nga cases will rise after the election, not with Cebu. Kay during the election ang atong mga tawo nag sul-ob og face mask unya ang atong targeted population para sa atongvaccination sobra naman ta,” said Garganera.

The councilor, however, said the COVID-19 is still around.

He said the city government will continue with its vaccination program, especially on minors who are between five to 17-years-old.

Garganera is also urging those who already had their two doses of vaccine to avail of the booster shot.
