Cebuanos deliver for Team Phl
So far, so good for Cebuano athletes seeing action in the 31st Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Hanoi, Vietnam.
After the first week of battle in the biennial sports conclave, the Cebuanos have made significant contribution to Team Philippines with two gold, five silver, and three bronze medals in four sporting events.
Michael Angelo Marquez of Barangay Lahug, Cebu City and his longtime partner Stephanie Sabalo pocketed gold medal (Chachacha) in Latin discipline of dancesport competition. They also got a pair of silvers in jive and fivedance event.
Wilbert Aunzo and Pearl Marie Cañeda, who came up with a triple-gold when the country hosted the previous SEA Games in 2019, settled for only silver this time in Samba and two bronzes in Rumba and Latin–Paso doble.
In billiards, Rubelyn Amit successfully defended her women’s 9-ball crown after edging Singapore’s Jennifer Tan in the final,7-2, for her fifth
SEA Games gold in a row.
Over at the bowling lanes, Alexis Sy showed vast improvement from her past performances that resulted to a silver-medal finish in women’s singles event.
Sy toppled 1,320 pins in what is by far her best showing since she first joined the SEAG in 2015.
In men’s triathlon, Andrew Kim Remolino produced silver medal in a 1-2 finish for Team Phl that saw Fer Caseres taking home the gold.
Remolino clocked in one hour, 59 minutes, and 16 seconds on the way to his second straight SEAG silver.
In the distaff side, newcomer Raven Faith Alcoseba made her SEA Games debut a memorable one after grabbing bronze in women’s triathlon with a time of 2:18:30.
Both Remolino and Alcoseba as well as Pearl Cañeda are from Talisay City.
