The museum has been closed for several months after incurring damages due to Typhoon Odette last December.

Damaged walls and windows are now being repaired, according to Bryner Diaz, head of the Cultural and Historical Affairs Office (CHAO).

The city museum features some artworks and artifacts that play a major role in the history of the city and the country as a whole.

It also has various artifacts related to the Sinulog, which is dubbed as the mother of all festivals in the country.

Since the museum is one of the sites often visited by tourists, Diaz said it is important to reopen it soon. The museum is open to the public for free.

Diaz said that during its reopening, the minimum health protocols set against Covid-19 will remain to be observed.

“Kining Cebu City Museum kay libre kini alang sa katawhan. Atol pud sa atong operasyon, atoa gyud nga ipaneguro ang pagpatuman sa social distancing,” said Diaz.

The city government is expecting many visitors to the museum when it reopens. This is also an avenue to promote tourist sites and activities in the city, said Diaz.

Earlier Vice Mayor Donaldo Hontiveros, chairman of the Cebu City Cultural and Historical Affairs Commission, promised to improve the infrastructure and take good care of the artifacts in the museum as part of the city’s bid into becoming a Smart City.

The city government, through the commission, also has its hands full with its cultural mapping training workshops.

The workshops are attended by architects and engineers, as well as those from the academe, and culture and heritage advocates.
