2 water meter ‘thieves’ fall

Two suspected water meter thieves were arrested by the police in separate incidents after they were caught in the act of stealing water meters of Metro Cebu Water District (MCWD) in Barangay San Nicolas Proper, Cebu City over the weekend.

The suspects were identified as Rodrigo Berdiflor, 18, and Adrian Fortres Morris, 25. Both were allegedly caught by the police in the act of stealing water meters.

Berdiflor was arrested along Tres de Abril Street on Sunday dawn while trying to remove a water meter from the pipeline of MCWD. He was with a certain John LukeAbellanosa who managed to escape from the police.

Seized from Berdiflor were one MCWD water meter and a pipe wrench he used as a tool. On Saturday morning, operatives of San Nicolas Police Station also arrested Morris while in the act of stealing water meter in the same area. Police Sergeant Rene Remedios, desk officer of San Nicolas Police Station, said Morris’ unidentified companion managed to escape when the police operatives arrive. The police seized from Morris one water meter and tools.

Remedios said they have noted an increase in the incidents of water meter theft in their area lately.
