Flores-Almario, Maratas-Molina tandems rule

After a three year hiatus brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic and a tough blow dealt by Super Typhoon Odette last December, Alta Vista Golf and Country Club’s annual membergues­t tournament – The View Invitation­al 2022 – took place last week.

When the smoke of the battle cleared, the tandems of Jerome Flores and Carl Almario as well as that of Jerry Maratas and partner Leslie Molina emerged as victors.

Flores and Almario bagged the tournament’s best gross honors while Maratas and Molina earned the overall net title.

Flores, the member, fired rounds of 35 and 28 points in the Stableford Scoring System. His partner, Almario, who is a former member of the club and one of the leading figures in amateur golf in Cebu for several decades now, turned the rolling terrain into his playground firing 35 on the first day and a spectacula­r 12-under-par 48 points on Sunday. day aggregate of two-underpar 146 points.

Maratas, the club member, shot 31 points on the first round and made 41 on the second round. His partner, Molina, was consistent with 39 and 40 points giving them a two-day total of 151.

The Division A title

went to the tandem of 14year old Grace Pauline Quintanill­a (39-40) and partner BoyetManga­na (3136). First runner-up was the team of Woo Jung Bum (Lyon Woo) (28-36) and his partner Jovi Neri (39-36) with an aggregate of 139. Second runner-up was the duo of

Anthony Bejar (37-34) and Ryan abdon (36-31) with 138 edging Blake Go and Bayani Garcia in the countback.

The title for Division B went to Jun Sasuman (36-39) and partner Ethan Maamo (36-37) with a total of 148. First runner-up was the father and son team of Edgar (3234)

and Ian Mantuhac (39-36) with 141. Completing the podium was the all-Japanese duo of Masahisa Kawakami (38-29) and Masaro Matsuo (33-40) with 140 points.

Jamar Matugas (38-40) and partner Joel Valencia (27-36) topped Division C with 141 points. Second place went to Anwar Abarintos (3435) and Elmer Mansanadez (36-35) with 140. Third place went to JovenVangu­ardia (30-30) and Fritz Canono (34-33) with 127 beating Richard Condor and Michael Lureñana in the countback.

LoloySabug­a (30-29) and guest partner Noel Abad (27-25) bagged the best gross title for the seniors’ division with a total of 111 Stableford points. To qualify for this category the total age of the team members must be at least 120 years and no member should be less than 55 years old.

The net champion for the seniors’ class was the duo of Gerard Co (34-34) and Manuel Go (38-39) with 145 points. First runner-up was the tandem of Rolando Alberto (34-29) and Gerry Catindoy (35-34) with 132. Second runner-up was the team of Ramon Sebastian (35-39) and Pal Lomondaya (24-30) with 128.

Specially-crafted plaques were awarded to all the winners.

Three eagle achievers on par-4 holes shared a SkyGo motorcycle, which was put at stake. These were Dominic Gotiong who made it on May 19 on hole No. 3, Jaime Gochoco May 20 on hole No. 12 and Clive Paca last May 21 on hole No. 14.

Tournament chairman and club director Vicente Go thanked all the sponsors and participan­ts. He said that several charitable institutio­ns will also benefit from the proceeds of the mulligan funds of the event.
