Only 79 percent or 108 out of the 136 local government units in Central Visayas passed the assessment done by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) on financial housekeeping for the year 2022.

According to DILG, only the National Capital Region (NCR) and Region 12 among the regions in the country have achieved a 100 percent passing.

An improvement of the results for Central Visayas, however, was noted last year compared to the previous year. More LGUs in the region have passed the assessment last year compared to the previous year where only less than 100 LGUs were issued a seal of good financial housekeeping by the DILG.

All the LGUs in the country are assessed annually based on the available audit opinion of the Commission on Audit and compliance with the full disclosure policy. The results of the GFH assessment revealed that all provinces in Central Visayas—Cebu, Bohol, Negros Oriental, and Siquijor— passed the evaluation.

The three highly urbanized cities of Cebu, Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu were also found compliant to sound financial practices. Aside from the tri-cities, other GFH passers among the component cities in Cebu Province include Bogo, Carcar, Naga, Talisay, and Danao. All of these cities also passed in the previous year’s assessment.

The other cities in Central Visayas that were given the seal of good financial housekeeping are Tagbilaran in Bohol and Bais, Bayawan, and Guilhulngan in Negros Oriental.

For the municipalities, 33 LGUs in Cebu passed the assessment. These are the towns of Alcantara, Alcoy, Alegria, Aloguinsan, Asturias, Badian, Balamban, Bantayan, Barili, Boljoon, Tabuelan, Borbon, Catmon, Daanbantayan, Dalaguete, Ginatilan, Liloan, Madridejos, Minglanilla, Moalboal, Oslob, Tuburan, Pinamungahan, Ronda, Samboan, San Fernando, San Remigio, Santa Fe, Santander, Sibonga, Sogod, Tabogon, and Tudela.

In Bohol, 44 towns made it while six in Siquijor and nine in Negros Oriental. —
