After Mayor Michael Rama had told City Hall employees last year to stay fit, the City Health Department has launched yesterday a weight-loss challenge with the mayor promising to give incentives to those participating in it.

The mayor stressed the importance of staying fit to be able to perform their jobs better.

“Ato gyud ning i-fight. Unsaon man nato pagka Singaporelike kung di ta kadagan? Ako lang ng hangyo ninyo,” Rama said. The event has two categories – overweight and obese. Several departments were represented and presented yesterday during the official launch.

Those who accepted the challenge will have until June to lose weight.

Even Cebu City Police Office chief, Police Colonel Ireneo Dalogdog, wasn’t able to escape from Rama’s call to fitness, asking him to show the rest of the participants how to squat, and later told the local police chief has a pot belly too.

“Ug mokinto gani ka (which the local police chief did), pasabot ana, nag-abot inyong tiyan,” Rama said.

Aside from that, having a healthy lifestyle is also for their own good and for their family’s sake.

Prior to the launch of the City Hall’s weight-loss challenge, the city government, through its sports commission, also staged a fun run from Fuente Osmena Circle to Plaza Independencia where the weight-loss challenge was launched.

Rama said he will give cash incentives to those giving much effort to trim down.

The mayor also tackled the Charter Day bonus, which, he said, will be given in tranches.

“Ang atong bonus, maong maninguha gyud tag trabaho ana. Ayaw lang ug derecho P50,000 kay daghan mang moreklamo. You trust your mayor. Saligi lang gyud ko ninyo. Mas bale para nako ang kwarta ihatag ngadto sa katawhan, kaysa mahurot sa kawat,” Rama said.

“Ayaw mo sigeg kaguol kung ang inyong mga kauban nadato nas kawat. Ayaw, ayaw. Kinahanglan dato ta sa panglantaw sa Ginoo. Kay inig kahuman, unsa may mahitabo? Wala na. Maabo rata, sa yuta kita mutugpa,” said Rama. —
