A FUN-FILLED SUMMER OUTING
It’s very likely that you have heard of the terms “team building” and ‘team bonding”. Many times, the two can be indistinguishable, but each term has a specific objective. Team building refers to the development of specific talents. Exercises like hosting a brainstorming session helps employees develop critical thinking, decisionmaking, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Team bonding, on the other hand, is all about having fun. As the saying goes, all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. The objective in such gatherings is to relax and create a collective memory that draws employees closer with each other.
The Cebu Animal Doctors’ Hospital and affiliate clinics had their first summer outing – a team bonding activity – last May 8 at the Cebu White Sands Resort in Maribago Beach, Lapu-Lapu City.
The resort has facilities for swimming at sea and pool, and it has very clean bathrooms. The weather this summer is very peculiar since the sun could be shining too brightly with temperatures as high as 42 degrees, but then, there are sudden shifts to dark clouds forming in the sky, then back to clear bright skies and the hot sun within an hour.
A lovely lunch was ordered for seventy employees with the following dishes: Cebu Lechon, Lumpia Shanghai with Sweet Chili Sauce, Spaghetti Marinara, Shrimp & Squid with Broccoli Stir-fry, Lemon & Pepper Roasted Chicken, Creamy Pork Chops & Mushrooms and Chocolate Tiramisu for dessert. Cool refreshing drinks and free-flowing cold beer were served.
It is difficult to match the taste of well-prepared Cebu Lechon, but the roasted chicken was surprisingly tasty and delicious. The usual ratio for the service of lechon is one lechon for every twenty people, so there was an excess of lechon. It was shared with employees who volunteered to nurse the ailing dogs and cats left in the affiliate clinics.
Over the years, I have joined many company outings, and this was the first picnic that I had joined with a lovely dessert served to employees. Another first was that afternoon snacks with sandwiches & matching potato fries with dips were also served!
The management of Cebu Animal Doctors’ Hospital and associates spared no expense in providing a 1st class Summer Escapade. This team bonding is building social capital to improve how employees interact, collaborate, and cooperate.
Employees are connected on group chats, but this face-to-face encounter strengthens the social relationship that helps employees work together more effectively.
