Mikee Quintos showcases new side on ‘The Write One’

- EDITOR: VANESSA A. BALBUENA By JANUAR JUNIOR AGUJA

Mikee Quintos’ latest teleserye, “The Write One,” will wrap up this Thursday, May 25, after premiering in March. Here, she plays ‘Via’ who is paired with Ruru Madrid’s character ‘Liam’ as a result of him finding a magical typewriter where he re-wrote his life following an incident involving Joyce (played by Bianca Umali) who became Savana in this new timeline.

At the start of the series, Via is at odds with Savana because of Liam’s clear feelings towards her as Joyce in the old timeline when they were together. Quintos’ boyfriend Paul Salas plays Hans who is paired with Savana in this timeline.

Given the show’s dramatic premise, serious scenes are expected. Yet there had been a lot of camaraderie between the cast while shooting.

“Minsan when we have main characters in one scene, hindi matapos yung take because we kept on laughing. As in, there was a [hilarious] reaction when there is a conyo conversation between [castmates] Karenina Haniel and Eva Le Queen and we enjoyed those scenes a lot,” she shared.

In the cast are veteran actors Ramon Christopher, Mon Confiado, and Lotlot de Leon, the latter of whom gave Quintos an important piece of advice.

“I was talking to Ms. Lotlot in the tent where we sat next to each other. We were two to three weeks in and I didn’t know much about my character yet. It triggered that feeling of confusion because I didn’t know what direction I should take with my character. I expressed it to her and she told me that she also feels that way as well, which surprised me. She advised me that it’s about how you handle your character. Be confident and trust your gut feeling because it never goes away. Just do the job,” she recounted.

“I was struck by what she said and I won’t forget it. That’s something I will be holding on to for a long time.”

Quintos also shared how pressured she felt to work with her best friend, Madrid, from her “Encantadia” days, as well as with her boyfriend Salas -- both of whom were fresh from their teleserye “Lolong.”

“I find inspiration in how Paul did [his role in ‘Lolong’] because I knew his process when he was shooting the show. I was working on ‘Apoy sa Langit’ that time and in our lock-in tapings which took place at the same time, we talked about how we really went out of our comfort zone in those projects,” she said.

While they have starred together in teleseryes prior to “The Write One,” this was their first time to be paired on screen.

“In my seven years in the industry, you get to see a new side of me. I have never been public about my relationships before, but this is the first time I am doing that [by working with my boyfriend]. I hope you see a softer, vulnerable side of me.”
