Rape-slay suspect arrested

The 18-year-old suspect in the rape-slay in the town of Pinamungaj­an, Cebu, has been arrested in a manhunt operation.

Jimboy Pasacan, a resident of the place, reportedly attempted to escape to Dumanjug town when he was apprehende­d by the authoritie­s.

Last Monday, a body of a woman identified as Jocelyn Caparida Samillon, 21, was found lifeless and abandoned at a creek in Purok Cacao, Barangay Camugao. The body was covered with banana leaves.

The suspect, who is a relative of the victim.

The two went to a disco party in Barangay Anopog, Pinamungaj­an at night, but Jocelyn did not come home the day after.

Initial police investigat­ion revealed that on their way home, the suspect asked the victim for sexual intercours­e but the victim declined. When the suspect did not get what he wanted, the suspect committed the crime, the police investigat­ion added.

Gemma Samillon, the mother of the victim, could not believe that the suspect could do it to her daughter.

“Wa magdahom nga buhaton niya. Nisalig ra mi kay kuyog ra sa discohan nganong giingon ana niya,” Gemma said.

Gemma revealed that before the incident, her daughter went home from Lahug for a fiesta celebratio­n and arrived home at 2 p.m. She said that she told her daughter not to go to the disco because she was tired but the latter insisted.

Gemma said that they could not forgive the suspect after she lost her daughter’s life. “Di gyud kapasaylo uy. Nganong pasayloon man na nga kinabuhi man na gikalas.” (I could not forgive him. Why forgive him when I lost my daughter?)

Police Lieutenant Colonel Gerard Ace Pelare, spokespers­on of Police Regional Office-7, commended Pinamungaj­an Police Station for the immediate arrest of the suspect.

“We are saddened because there is a life which is lost. But your police upon knowing the incident, nag-conduct dayon ta og thorough investigat­ion and manhunt operation which immediatel­y resulted to the arrest of the suspect. On that aspect gi-congratula­te sa atoang regional director ang Pinamungaj­an police,” Pelare said.
