Jose Manuel Entrecanales y Domecq, CEO and chairman of Acciona Energia in his first meeting with Governor Gwendolyn Garcia thanked the latter for forging a partnership with the company.

The said company will soon construct, operate, and maintain the 150-Megawatt Solar Power Plant in the Municipality of Daanbantayan, the country’s first public-privatepartnership in solar power generation.

According to Sugbo News, the official Facebook page of the provincial government, Entrecanales emphasized during his meeting with Garcia his desire to sustain the partnership to support the development of Cebu, which he described as the number one province in the Philippines.

In response, Garcia assured Entrecanales that she will always prioritize projects that benefit the people of Cebu.

“What is good for Cebu — that is my position. That’s the only legacy I could give,” the governor said.

Last March 16, 2024, Acciona Energia and the Capitol signed a landmark deal for a joint venture project concerning the 150-MW solar power plant to be built in a 187-hectare property in Daanbantayan town.

The project hopes to support Cebu’s growing power needs as the province aims for more development.

To date, Acciona Energia is also in the early stages of negotiating with two other Cebu LGUs— Toledo City and the Municipality of Dumanjug, for the construction, operation, and maintenance of two other solar plants to further enhance energy infrastructure and security in Cebu.

Acciona is a global company focused on sustainable solutions for climate change mitigation, adaptation, resilience and the decarbonization of the economy, through the development and management of infrastructure and services, particularly in renewable energy, water, transportation and mobility, waste, and eco-efficient buildings.

Acciona’s infrastructure arm was also involved in the construction of the 8.5-kilometer Cebu Cordova Link Expressway.

During his visit, Entrecanales was accompanied by other Acciona executives, namely, Chief Financial officer Jose Entrecanales; Jose Gabriel Martin Fernandez: president of Acciona Foundation; Ignacio Domecq, Acciona’s business development director for Southeast Asia; Ruben Camba, Acciona’s director of infrastructure in Southeast Asia; and Fermin Alvarez, general manager of Freya Renewables. -
