Islanders receive generator sets, thank donors
SURIGAO DEL NORTE AGP International Holdings, Inc. (AG&P) has partnered with Balay Mindanaw Foundation Inc. (BMFI) to help rebuild communities struck by Typhoon Rai (Odette) in December last year.
Typhoon Rai swept through the Southern Philippines shortly before Christmas, affecting 16 million people and leaving seven provinces severely damaged. The typhoon impacted Dinagat Island the most, damaging over 14,000 houses and affecting over 34,000 residents.
The Dinagat Island continues to face limited electricity supply, with only an estimated 8% of the area with access to electricity. AG&P said it donated 30 solar-powered generator sets across 12 villages in Dinagat Islands to reinstate power and
communication lines to 1,500 families.
The villages of Columbos, Coring, Kanihan, Poblacion, Imee, Roxas, Carmen, Catadman, Dinagat Province, Laguna, Santa Rita and BMFI Disaster Risk-reduction, Resiliency-building, and Emergency Assistance Mission hub received the generator
sets, providing residents with the electricity needed to power critical infrastructure, including hospitals, health centers, and domestic households.
Anupam Ahuja, Senior Vice President of Strategic Services, AG&P Group said: “It is our responsibility to make sustainable energy solutions available and support our communities. AG&P is committed to paving the way for the country’s transition to cleaner energy as well as working as a dependable partner of the renewable sector, and fostering a healthier environment for all of us, including our children.”
Earlier this year, AG&P, in partnership with BMFI, helped rebuild over 100 homes in Santo Nino Basilisa and Loreto villages in Dinagat Island. (Mindanao Examiner)
