Valentine treats from Lea & Nina

- By Jelai L. Tarosa

Lea Salonga and Nina are set to heat up the month with shows featuring their solid presence and singing talents.

Nina, the true-blue singer dubbed Soul Siren, is set to do a Valentine Concert at the Music Museum scheduled tonight at 8.

Being made possible by Mossimo, her show titled Update Your Status has R&B act Luke Mejares as special guest. Nina, whose previous album Nina

Live! was given 10-times Diamond certification by the Philippine Association of Record Industry, is expected to sing some of her hits, familiar covers and songs from her new album.

According to her promoter, her latest work Stay Alive “showcases her maturity and change in musicality, flourishing from the staple ballads to more upbeat and fetching tunes. Her passion for dance music leaves her audience pleasantly surprised and enamored, yet still recognizing the soulfulness of her voice.”

Nina owns the record for being the first Filipina singer to receive a Diamond record award, having sold more than 300,000 albums nationwide.

Meanwhile, Lea, the Tony award winner who made waves in the international scene for her role as Kim in Miss Saigon, is going to sing in a duet with Grammy-winner James Ingram come Feb. 17 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum and Feb. 18 at the Waterfront Hotel in Lahug, Cebu City.

Concert promoter Joed Serrano, formerly a member of GMA 7’s That’s

Entertainment, told the press that Lea is his first choice to appear as guest for the James Ingram concert, which is his first try, along with partner Cora Rodrigo, at bringing an international act to the Philippines. “When we found out na free si Lea on the

concert dates. I really felt more confident about the show. She seems the perfect one to sing with James.”

Lea and James are bound to perform together the tracks Somewhere Out There and How Do You Keep The Music Playing. The former is Joed’s favorite James Ingram number as having witnessed numerous people sing his hits via karaoke urged Joed to desperately get the singer even if he is not on tour or promoting new music.

Not surprisingly, Joed calls his productions That’s Ntertainment. Lea was for a time a That’s member.
