Cemex to build waste heat power plant
CEMEX takes on another first to strengthen sustainable development and environmental protection in the country with a P880-million power plant facility designed to capture the cement plant’s excess heat to produce power, at its Solid Cement plant in Antipolo City, Rizal.
CEMEX regional president for Asia Joaquin Miguel Estrada bared this following the signing of a power supply agreement with Sinoma Energy Conservation Ltd. of China which will build the waste heat-to-energy facility, a first for the CEMEX group of cement plants worldwide.
“CEMEX is a company that wants to achieve a corporate objective of lower operational costs, and also push an agenda to lower our carbon footprint, and this project is proof positive of our commitment to sustainable development,” Estrada said.
Under the contract signed in Beijing, China, Sinoma will design, build, operate and manage the six-megawatt power plant that uses a technology that would convert waste heat from the cement plant into usable electricity.
For Sinoma, the Antipolo City project is also the first of its kind outside China, with bright prospects of replicating it elsewhere in the world.
CEMEX Philippines president Pedro Palomino said the project is consistent with the company’s policy of pursuing expansion plans within the parameters of sustainable development.
