Nigerian football player manhandles bar waitress

- By SANDY ARANETA

A Nigerian football player was arrested yesterday morning for allegedly manhandling and insulting a waitress at a bar in Malate, Manila.

Charles Ujam, 30, plays as a defender with the Pasargad Football Club under the United Football League.

Ujam and some of his teammates were playing pool and drinking at the Studio 54 bar when, at around 4 a.m., one of his teammates ordered an energy drink for one of their companions, identified only as “Baylon.”

Police Officer 3 Gilbert Isole said after waitress Haydie Lucas, 26, served the energy drink to

Baylon, Ujam grabbed the belt bag around the waitress’ waist and asked her why she gave

Baylon an energy drink when he never ordered any.

Lucas said she tried to explain that one of their companions had

ordered the drink for Baylon, but

Ujam refused to listen.

While holding her by the arm, Ujam then asked her if she would have sex with Baylon. Lucas said when she said, “no,” Ujam shouted

at her. He told her not to say no to him and then asked her, “How much is your service?” Lucas said.

When Lucas asked Ujam to let her go, he refused and instead pinched her nose hard while still holding her by the arm.

Ujam was allegedly about to slap her when he was accosted by the bar’s security guards, who turned the football player over to the Manila Police District (MPD).

Investigators said Ujam tested positive for alcohol when he was brought to the Ospital ng Maynila for physical examination before being booked. He was detained at the MPD’s General Assignment Section pending the filing of slight physical injury charges against him before the city prosecutor’s

office.
