Congress urged: Declare QC Phl capital

-

The Quezon City Council has passed a resolution urging Congress to study and pass a law declaring Quezon City as the capital city of the Philippines.

Quezon City, the largest in Metro Manila or the National Capital Region, is the most populous and the richest city in the Philippines.

It was named after the late Manuel Quezon, president of the

Philippine Commonwealth.

Because Quezon City is the former capital, some national government offices are located in the city.

The Batasang Pambansa Complex is the seat of the House of Representatives. Also located in the city are two of the most prestigious universities in the Philippines: the University of the Philippines and the Ateneo de Manila University.

Some other big educational institutions are located in the city. It is now the city with the largest number of private elementary and secondary schools in the country.

Also located in the city are the main offices of government agencies like the Land Transportation Office, Bureau of Internal Revenue, Social Security System, National Printing Office, National Power Corp., Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and many more.

Quezon City is also the home of major broadcasting networks in the country.

The city also witnessed some significant historical events. One of these were the Cry of Pugad Lawin at the farm of Melchora Aquino in Bahay Toro, Project 8, and the EDSA People Power Revolution.

“These changes made Quezon City what it is now, more beautiful than ever. And because of these beautiful attributes, Quezon City deserves to be declared again as the capital of the Republic of the Philippines,” the resolution said. – Rhodina Villanueva
