The Philippine Red Cross Laguna chapter has received donation for victims of typhoon Sendong from the Philippine National Police ( PNP)- Calabarzon region during the Monday flag raising ceremony in Sta. Cruz, Laguna.

Calabarzon police director Chief Superintendent James Melad and Laguna police director Senior Superintendent Gilbert Cruz told The STAR that the donation is part of the confiscated 112 fruit game machines during the all out-war campaign against illegal gambling in the entire 4A region.

Melad said the PRC-Laguna chapter also got cash donation worth P60,000 last year, but now they received only P31,170 in coins donation.

Last Monday the Laguna police destroyed the machines in the Kampo Heneral Paciano Rizal camp in Sta. Cruz, Laguna.

Melad said not only the PRC-Laguna chapter but also several public schools and farmers are receiving assis- tance from the PNP-Calabarzon region. They are beneficiaries of whatever the police recover from their operations.

The PRC-Laguna chapter team led by Dindo Melendrez, CSR-Safety Services chief-PRC-Laguna chapter expressed appreciation for the additional donation given them by the Laguna police command.

Melendrez said the donation will be immediately deposited in a government bank.

“We will use the donation for any emergency purposes during disasters, typhoons and other significant events,” Melendrez told The STAR.

Cruz cited several public schools received 100 armchairs each made from hot lumbers seized in the province since last month.

He also said five fishing boats seized from illegal fishing operators are donated to various volunteer teams that will be used for search and rescue operations during typhoons and floods.
