Car importers see 28% rise in vehicle sales

Vehicle importers saw their sales rise 28 percent in the first half of the year from the same period a year ago driven by favorable economic conditions.

The ssociation of Vehicle Importers and istributor­s, Inc. VI said in a statement yesterday that it sold 15,799 units in the first semester, higher than the 12,324 units sold in the comparable period last year.

The Chamber of utomotive anufacture­rs of the Philippine­s Inc. C PI reported earlier this month that its car sales climbed four percent to 72,874 units in the January to June period from the 69,782 units sold in the same period last year.

The VI said sales of passenger cars went up 59 percent to 9,530 units in the first-half from 6,007 units sold last year.

or the month of June alone, VI ’s sales grew nine percent to 2,912 units from 2,666 units sold in the same month a year ago.

VI data showed that the local unit of outh orean car manufactur­er I accounted for the bulk of the associatio­n’s sales for the month as it sold 2,356 units, 2.7 percent higher than the 2,293 units sold in the same month last year.
