Korean Filmfest at SM Supermalls

The Korean Embassy in Manila will showcase seven family-oriented films during the Korean Film Festival at the SM Supermalls. It will run starting tomorrow, Sept. 18 to Sept. 23 at SM Megamall Cinema 9; Sept. 26 to 30, SM City Baguio Cinema 2; and Oct. 3 to 7 at SM City Cebu Cinema 3.

A joint project of the Korean Embassy in Manila, the SM Supermalls and SM Cinema, the festival is in time for the celebratio­n of the National Foundation Day of South Korea on Oct. 3. The Taoist Wizard, Spellbound, Late Blossom, Bunt, A Barefoot Dream, Arahan and Highway Star are included in the Family Time line-up of films.

The Taoist Wizard is an action-fantasy film about an ancient magician named Jeon Woo Chi who becomes trapped in a scroll and then saves modern-day Korea from goblins. Until he meets a woman he fell in love with before named Seo In-kyung. It stars Kang Dong-Won, Im Soo-Jung and Kim Yoonseok. It will be the red carpet premiere film at SM Megamall tomorrow, Sept. 18.

Spellbound is a horrorroma­ntic comedy about Jo-goo, a street magician and Yu-ri, a girl who can see dead people after being involved in an accident. Yu-ri and Jo-goo then fall for each other. And though Jo-goo is sometimes scared, he loves Yu-ri enough to overcome his fear. It stars Lee Min-ki and Son Ye-jin. It will premiere on Sept. 26 at SM City Baguio.

Late Blossom is a drama-comedy about two sets of couples who represent what true love is. The first pair is Kim Man-Suk, a man who projects a hard exterior but has a warm heart and S. Song, a lonely woman who works hard by selling scrap paper. The second pair is Jang Kun-Bong who works in a parking lot all day. His wife suffers from Alzheimer’s disease so Kun-Bong takes care of her dearly. It stars Lee Soon-Jae, Yun SoJeong, Song Jae-Ho and Kim Soo-Mi. It will be the red carpet premiere film at SM City Cebu on Oct. 3.

Also in the line-up are the drama Bunt, the sports film A Barefoot Dream, the action-fantasycom­edy Arahan and the musicalHig­hway Star.

The event will also feature a photo exhibit that celebrates Korean culture. It includes beautiful photograph­s from the Korea Tourism Organizati­on, survey from Korea Copyright Commission, as well as movie posters of Korean films from the Korean Cultural Center.
