The country’s leading educational publisher, Vibal Publishing House, recently launched its K to 12 textbooks during the 75th Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines (CEAP) National Convention held from Aug. 29 to 31, 2012 at the SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia Com- plex, Pasay City.

This milestone is in line with the mandate of the Philippine government to implement the K to 12 program in the Philippines, which aims to institute reforms that will improve and align the country’s education system to international standards.

The all-new Vibal K to 12 series under the major subjects of Math, Science, Filipino, and English, among others, will be included in the portfolio, authored by esteemed members of the academe. These include Our World of Math 1-10, Rainbows in English 1-6/ Language in Literature 7-10; Science in Our World 1-6/ Integrated Science 7-10; Hiyas (Wika at Pagbasa) 1-6/ Hiyas ng Lahi (Panitikan, Gramatika, Retorika) 7-10; Araling Panlipunan 1-6/ 8-10; Growing Up with Good Manners 1-6/ Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao 7-10; and Our World of Music, Arts, P.E., and Health (MAPEH) 16.

“Vibal will implement its K to 12 program in the same manner as the Department of Education and most private schools around the country — that is, gradually. We’re taking this one step at a time to ensure that we come up with the best possible educational materials that come out true to form and truly in line with the objectives of the Philippine government regarding the program,” said Jules Corotan, Vibal Publishing’s head of corporate communications.

Corotan added that the textbooks will be “learner-centered, inquiry-based, taskbased, and will adopt the spiraling approach as prescribed by the K to 12 curriculum. Other core features to be incorporated into the textbooks are Authentic Assessment, Differentiated Instruction, Understanding by Design, and Mother Tongue.
