Unique ways of using alcohol

-

Rubbing alcohol is a proven all- around household essential that is commonly used as a germicide and as a cleansing agent.

But did you know that this antiseptic can do more than just disinfection? Check out these unique tips that will come in handy when using rubbing alcohol in the future.

Homemade ice packs

Ice packs are used to treat minor injuries such as sprains and muscle pains. Made up of ice with a refrigerant gel, readily made ice packs can be bought at stores. They can also be prepared at home with the use of ice cubes in a container or a cloth.

But unlike manufactured ice packs, homemade ones tend to become bulky. To achieve its shapeable feature, mix one part rubbing alcohol with three parts water into a resealable plastic bag before storing it in the freezer. Spruce it up by adding glitters or food color in the solution. The rubbing alcohol will keep the solution from freezing completely.

Earwax removal

Earwax buildup can be prevented but not avoided. Too much accumulation of earwax can lead to ear pain, ringing and temporary hearing loss. Regular cleaning is not enough for such cases, but a solution can dissolve the excessive wax in your ear.

Mix rubbing alcohol with vinegar into a rubber syringe and gently apply it to your ear. Afterwards, clean your ear with water and dab it with a clean cloth.

Athlete’s foot

Athlete’s foot is a contagious fungal infection affecting the skin between the toes. A great number of treatments can be applied to cure one’s infected foot, but having a homemade solution works effectively as well.

Apply alcohol thoroughly to the affected area immediately after a bath to cure the infection. This eliminates the fungi that have surfaced on the foot’s skin. Then soak your feet in a diluted rubbing alcohol solution to prevent more fungi from forming.

Stain removal

Large spots and stains from clothes can be hard to get rid of. But with the trick of a towel, sponge and rubbing alcohol, those stains will be visible no more.

Just place a towel under the stained portion of the clothing, then keep on dabbing the sponge dipped in rubbing alcohol to transfer the stain from the piece of clothing to the towel underneath it. Once the stain is out, rinse the area with water. Apply this immediately while the stain is still fresh to easily remove it from the fabric.
