Making K to 12 work: Preparing for the future

-

These are serious questions that educators face nowadays, particularly in the light of recent developments in the Education front. One such challenge facing Basic Education today is the introduction of the K to 12 program by the Department of Education.

Since the start of 2012, Rex Book Store has been implementing programs to prepare its partners in education for the impending implementation of the K to 12 program. From January to March this year, REX held K to 12 training workshops for educators, entitled “Preparing for a Meaningful Kto12 Implementation through UbD+DI”, catering to more than 2,500 educators across 418 schools nationwide.

In March and April, regional in-depth seminars (“Leadership Matters: Addressing the K to 12 Challenge”) were conducted for more than 700 educators from 329 schools. Eighteen sessions of exclusive seminars were conducted from April to June 2012. In addition to these seminars, REX has also created a special site in its online portal, www.rexinteractive.com, called “Teacher’s Lounge,” where educators can access and

download the latest information and materials on K to 12.

All Rex worktexts have corresponding Teacher’s Resource Materials (TRMs) that have been expertly designed not only to facilitate teaching, but also encourage the practice of UbD plus Differentiated Instruction. All of REX’s TRMs were specially developed to nurture the 5C’s of the Fiipino K to 12 teacher: Competence, Commitment, Creativity, Compassion, and Character.

“Throughout this transition to the K to 12 curriculum, our partners in education can depend on REX Book Store’s unwavering support, particularly through our high quality learning materials. We will strive to provide our Filipino students with the necessary skills and knowledge that will make them globally competitive,” said Don Timothy Buhain, chief operating officer of Rex Book Store.
