‘An Oud Concert’ at CCP
Naseer Shamma is a musician from Iraq who performs on the Oud in a manner which combines ancient methods with his own original modern composition. He is the only musician to have constructed an eight-string Oud. This new design ( eight instead of six strings) expanded the musical range of the Oud and gave it a distinct tonality. His innovations go beyond that to include a new method of playing the Oud using one hand. This allows handicapped people to play and enjoy the instrument.
Naseer plays an active role in promoting and encouraging the public to cultivate social awareness and responsibility, most especially children and refugees with the purpose of promoting peace in the world. He is a ground-breaking and creative artist with a compassionate endeavor through charity concerts.
Naseer will be the first Iraqi National Artist who will visit the Philippines to receive an award from the Gusi Peace Prize International for Performing Arts and Humanitarianism.
Naseer has conducted several performances in France, Germany, Italy, Turkey, UK, Greece, Switzerland, USA, Spain, Sweden, Denmark, Netherlands, Portugal, Belgium, and many Arab countries.
The embassy of Iraq in cooperation with the spouses of the head of mission and The Cultural Center of the Philippines has organized a concert for charity on Dec. 3, 7 p.m. at the Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo (CCP Main Theater), CCP Complex, Roxas Boulevard, Pasay City.
