Movement for natural farming launched
Young entrepreneur Warren Tan recently created a movement aimed at encouraging beginner farmers to not only engage in viable farming systems but also sustainable and healthy practices.
Tan, a successful “agripreneur,” has been into organic farming, growing fruits and vegetables, raising livestock and free-range chicken, producing natural fertilizer and livestock as well as healthy fruit and vegetable fermented juices.
Forming the Securing Health and Environment Movement (SHEMOVES), Tan said he would like to see his fellow youth entrepreneurs venture into agribusiness that does not only deliver bottomline income but also meets the need to preserve harmony and balance in the environment and promote healthy living among Filipino consumers.
Says Tan of SHEMOVES: “As a young agripreneur, I share the philosophy that in order to change the system, all of us must become the change that we want to see. I want to encourage my fellow young, aspiring farmers and/or entrepreneurs to join this movement, share my vision and become the new blood in the field of Philippine agriculture. By becoming agripreneurs, we play a positive role in the growth and development of the agriculture sector and, ultimately, the economy.”
Together with this is the need to be good stewards of the earth.
“We also educate people on the need to protect the earth from where all plants grow and our food come from. As youth, the future is in our hands. We have the time, opportunity and resources to transform not only ourselves but other people’s lives. With SHEMOVES, I want to prove that organic/natural farming can be rewarding and profitable,” Tan adds.
