A nationwide, under- 22 basketball tournament featuring a huge field of 180 teams is set for a grand launching next month.

Dubbed the “Sinclair Paints Basketball Super League”, the meet will run from Feb. 23 to June 2 and will cover eight different areas from as far as Southern Mindanao all the way to the National Capital Region.

League coordinato­r Darren Evangelist­a said the tournament is held in partnershi­p with the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) in its continuing effort to discover and develop young and fresh talents countrywid­e.

At the same time, he added the event will also help in rehabilita­ting the different basketball courts to be visited by the “Super League” during its entire course.

“This is a two-pronged undertakin­g. We aim to promote basketball especially among the youth and then, we’ll help them repaint their basketball courts and facilities,” said the former player in the PSA Forum at Shakey’s Malate recently.

Sinclair marketing coordinato­r Analyn Salvadico and sports coordinato­r Jojo Manoloto joined Evangelist­a as panel of guests.

The league holds area and city eliminatio­ns in South Mindanao (Davao, Tagum/Panabo, General Santos), North Mindanao (Cagayan De Oro A and B), Butuan, Agusan Del Sur), Western Visayas (Iloilo, Aklan, Negros, Bacolod), Eastern Visayas (Cebu, Tacloban), North Luzon (Ilocos, Bulacan, Pampanga, Isabela), and South Luzon (Laguna, Batangas, Bicol).

Preliminar­ies will also be held in NCR divided into A ( Camanava, Quezon City, Manila), and B (Las Piñas, Parañaque, Makati, Pasig, Taguig, Pasay).
