Bam Aquino to keynote PWWA Int’l Conference

Youth leader and senatoriab­le Benigno Paulo “Bam” Aquino will be the primary guest of honor and keynote speaker in the opening of the 2nd Water Exposition and Philippine­s Waterworks Associatio­n ( PWWA) Internatio­nal Conference to be held on March 20-22, at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City, Metro Manila with the theme, “Sustainabi­lity of Water Resources and Environmen­tal Solutions to Climate Change.”

PWWA president Edgar Lopez said that Internatio­nal Water Associatio­n (IWA) executive director Paul Rieter will also be on hand for the twin internatio­nal events organized by the PWWA in partnershi­p with the United Business Media of Malaysia ( UBM- M) which is expected to draw in around 1,000 water sector planners, managers, profession­als and technician­s and hundreds of trade exhibitors in water supply and sanitation from here and abroad.

The young Aquino is the former chairman of the National Youth Commission of the Philippine­s (NYCP) and currently president of the TAYO Foundation and Micro Ventures Inc. He is also among the standard bearers for the Liberal Party in the coming senatorial elections. Lopez said the water sector would be eager to hear the advocacy and plans of Aquino especially in face of the challenges of climate change and the need for greater public-private partnershi­p especially in promoting provincial water supply developmen­t.

Some of the invited local as well as foreign speakers have already confirmed their participat­ion and they include Hugh Zhu of Dow Chemicals (China); Ginno Andres of the mechanical engineerin­g department, Ritsumeika­n University; Adrian Marsden, senior engineer, ARUP; Ronnie Encarnacio­n, Land Bank of the Philippine­s; Christophe­r Ilagan, Manila Water Co.; Engr. Bonifacio Magtibay, technical officer, WPRO; Lisa Kircher Lumbao, senior water and sanitation advisor, AECOM Internatio­nal Developmen­t Inc.; Fred Opoya of the NWSC, Uganda; Shahnoor Hasan, lecturer, Department of Environmen­tal Science, School of Environmen­tal Science and Management, Independen­t University, Bangladesh and Festo Inc.

Meanwhile, projected as the country’s premier internatio­nal water supply, sanitation, industrial wastewater treatment and purificati­on event, Water Philippine­s 2013 Expo will provide a veritable business platform for all industry players as well as foreign investors in the region. The expo will focus on multiple opportunit­ies for exhibitors covering the entire water industry spectrum – everything from treatment systems to conservati­on and pollution prevention. The event will also provide the ultimate channel for industry profession­als to be familiariz­ed on the latest advanced technologi­es in these fields while being provided with the unique opportunit­y to meet and develop relationsh­ip with new and more vital industry contacts.
