Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corp. (MMPC) recently signed a memorandum of agreement with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) to officially mark their partnership for an Apprenticeship Program. MMPC’s Apprenticeship Program adopts DOLE’s existing program under TESDA which is the “Kasanayan at Hanapbuhay” or KasH.

The implementation of the Apprenticeship Program will be under the following areas: Automotive Electrician, Automotive Body Repairing, Tinsmith Welder, Gas-Tungsten Arc Welding and Automotive Mechanical Assembly. To provide technical or vocational students the opportunity to acquire skills and develop their competencies and productivity through training and skills enhancement in an automotive assembly that will provide them with meaningful experience essential for their employability and employment is the main objective of this program.

“The automotive industry produces a lot of jobs in allied industries and as part of our philosophy, we will continue to foster programs that are dedicated toward youth empowerment,” Hikosaburo Shibata MMPC president and CEO said.

Labor and Employment Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis- Baldoz commended that the establishment of the Apprenticeship Program is an excellent model of corporate social responsibility and responsible unionism. “Our goal is to achieve the target of inclusive economic growth through job generation and poverty reduction.”

“We need to strengthen our partnership with MMPC and its union, TESDA and its accredited training institutions, such as the University of Rizal System and Marikina Polytechnic College, the initial two institutions where the first batch of apprentices come from,” Secretary Baldoz added.
