Metro Manila cops get motorbikes, radios for elections

At least 86 motorcycle­s and 100 handheld radios were turned over yesteday by Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Alan Purisima to the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) for their use in today’s elections.

“Let us remain on our feet, constantly alert and vigilant against all forms of disturbanc­e to peace and order,” said Purisima during a simple ceremony at the NCRPO grandstand in Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City.

“Let us remain visible and accessible to the public to raise their trust and confidence in the police, and to show those who intend to disturb the conduct of elections (and) that the police indeed means business in protecting the people and the integrity of the ballot,” he added.

NCRPO chief Director Leonardo Espina and his five district directors received the motorcycle­s and communicat­ion equipment from Purisima yesterday.

“I expect each of you to exercise the highest degree of profession­alism, integrity and neutrality, and always keep to your heart the core values that we have vowed to uphold – the values of service, honor and justice.” Purisima said.

According to Espina, the motorcycle and radios would be distribute­d to the five police districts to augment their needs during today’s midterm elections.

Sixteen motorcycle­s will be turned over to the Northern Police District, Eastern Police District, Manila Police District and Southern Police District, while 17 units will go to the Quezon City Police District and five to the Regional Public and Safety Battalion.

The 100 handheld radios, including 200 battery packs and 100 earpieces, were distribute­d to the five police districts for their immediate use today.

After the elections, the motorcycle­s and radios will be utilized to quickly respond to crimes and disasters.
