Gun ban remains until June 12

- By CECILLE SUERTE FELIPE

Licensed gun holders have eight more days before they can carry their firearms outside their residences.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) reminded the public that the gun ban will be in effect until June 12, and even gun holders with permits to carry firearms outside residence (PTCFOR) are prohibited from carrying their firearms outside their homes.

PNP spokesman Chief Superintendent Generoso Cerbo Jr. said the PNP is still enforcing the gun ban imposed by the Commission on Elections (Comelec), even after the May 13 elections.

Cerbo issued the statement following a rise in the number of persons arrested for violating the gun ban after the elections.

As of yesterday, Cerbo said the PNP has arrested 3,598 individuals, including 3,313 civilians, 43 government employees, four jail personnel, one fireman, seven law enforcement agents, and four militiamen.

Cerbo said administrative and criminal charges would be filed against the 51 PNP and 23 Armed Forces of the Philippines personnel who were apprehended for violating the Omnibus Election Code.

He said administrative sanctions would be meted on 152 security guards who were found carrying firearms.

The PNP confiscated 3,506 firearms, 1,053 bladed weapons, 232 grenades and 515 other explosive devices.

One of the latest additions to the list of policemen arrested for violating the gun ban law was SPO1 Romeo Cantal of the Parañaque police.
