PWU team wins big in Phl Culinary Cup

-

They were up against wellfunded and top chefs from some of the biggest hotels, culinary schools, restaurants and similar establishments both here and abroad.

But that didn’t stop three multi- awarded professors from the Philippine Women’s University (PWU) from bringing home honors to their school in the just-concluded Philippine Culinary Cup at the SM Convention Center in Pasay City.

Professors Mabel Liza Cagadoc, Armand Nening and Wilfredo Bejar (in photo) ended up with bronze medals and certificates of recognition in the Dream Team Challenge Category Professionals Division of the competition.

Sharing the honors with them was senior Hospitality Management student Mae oy Dalluyon.

The PWU team bested more than 30 leading hotels and universities with the following recipes:

Crispy Anchovy Ring with Lato- Pomelo Salad Served with esty Lemon Fish Paste in live il Dressing for the appetizer; Steamed Rolled Prawns Stuffed with Spinach and Chorizo Macao in Creamy Pineapple-Tomato Coco Sauce and Vegie Triangulo Fritters served with Gingered Basmati Rice for the main course;

Tablea Flan with Cashew Tuille and Strawberry Sauce for dessert.

Adding distinction to the PWU menu was the public recognition by a Chinese and South orean judge of the unique taste of the rice recipe, which was an original creation by Cagadoc.

It was the second victory in two months for Cagadoc and Nening. Last une, then head coach Cagadoc led the PWU team to the gold medal for the Table Set Up Category of the Manila Foods and Beverages Exposition,with Nening as team consultant.

Making the win more fulfilling was the fact that the PWU team did not have the benefit of external help from known chefs and culinary experts enjoyed by their opponents.

Cagadoc and Nening were the coaches of the bronze medalists in the 2013 Ajinomoto Umami Soup Bowl Challenge.

Bejar and Dalluyon won the bronze medal in the Cake Decoration Category of the National Food Showdown in September 2012.
