Pinay Kilos seeks help for Zamboanga evacuees

-

Advocacy group Pinay Kilos (PinK) is set to hold a fundraising activity this month for the families displaced by the Zamboanga crisis.

Called as “PinK Celebrity Auction Dos!”, the advocacy group in partnership with Anak Mindanao partylist headed by Rep. Sitti Djalia Turabin Hataman is seeking to solicit items that will be specifically used for the protection, health and welfare of women and children in the evacuation centers in Zamboanga.

“We seek to intervene by providing a safe and friendly space for the women and children in the evacuation centers, the conduct of psychosocial and debriefing sessions, play therapy for children, and women’s health services,” said Amihilda Sangcopan, Chairperson of PinK.

The government and the United Nations have already declared the situation in Zamboanga as “humanitarian crisis” with about 101,801 evacuees in 34 evacuation centers as of Sept. 29.

“With this, may we solicit from you any used personal item/s, like apparel, bags, accessories, and other belongings you may want to donate for this cause. May we further request for a personal message from you to the winning bidder of your donation,” Sangcopan said.

PinK held its very first Celebrity Auction to raise funds for a Women’s Library in the City of Zamboanga.

With the support of entertainment, media and political personalities, including the late Comedy King Dolphy, the PinK Women’s Library was opened and is now serving students, career professionals, and community leaders not just of Zamboanga City but also of the provinces of Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi.

PinK vice-chairperson Dewy Kulayan is scheduled to be in Metro Manila until Oct. 15, to collect all the solicited items.
