Retirement of 2 generals sparks revamp in PNP
The recent retirement of two police generals has triggered a major reshuffle in the Philippine National Police (PNP), initially involving nine senior police officials.
Interior Secretary Manuel Roxas II approved all the recommendations of PNP chief Director General Alan Purisima during a meeting at Camp Crame that lasted nearly four hours Monday, The STAR learned.
Deputy Director General Ager Ontog, the PNP deputy chief for administration, retired early after being named by President Aquino as the new head of the National Intelligence Coordinating Council while Director Cipriano Querol Jr., head of the Directorate for Intelligence, retired on Dec. 8 after reaching the mandatory retirement age of 56.
Deputy Director General Felipe Rojas Jr., the deputy chief for operations, replaced Ontog while Chief Superintendent Charles Calima took over Querol’s post.
Deputy Director General Leonardo Espina replaced Rojas while the new head of the Directorial Staff, the post Espina vacated, is Chief Superintendent Marcelo Garbo Jr., the erstwhile head of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO).
The new NCRPO chief is Director Carmelo Valmoria, whose post at the Special Action Force will be taken over by Chief Superintendent Leo Napeñas.
Chief Superintendent Benjamin Magalong was named the new director of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) and his post at the Cordillera Administrative Region will be taken over by Chief Superintendent Isagani Nerez, the secretary of the Directorial Staff.
Former CIDG chief Director Francisco Uyami Jr. was designated as director of the Directorate for Research and Development, replacing Chief Superintendent Jaime Morente, who was transferred to the Directorate for Personnel and Records Management.
Chief Superintendent Ricardo Marquez is the new head of the Directorate for Operations, replacing Director Alex Monteagudo, who was transferred to the Directorate for Human Resource Doctrine and Development.
