Angeles U honors tycoon Andrew Tan
Angeles University Foundation conferred an honorary degree in humanities upon business mogul Dr. Andrew Tan in a special convocation on Dec. 9, at the AUF St. Cecilia’s Auditorium, Angeles City.
Tan was cited for his visionary leadership in real estate, food and beverage, and tourism which has contributed significantly to the country’s economy through investments and the generation of employment opportunities for 20,000 Filipinos.
From humble origins, he has become one of the most admired business tycoons, a renowned innovator, and a brilliant brand builder. He is currently chairman and CEO of the Alliance Global Group Inc., the multi-billion peso holding company for his three major businesses namely, condominium-developer Megaworld; the world’s biggest brandy producer Emperador Distillers, Inc. and the nationwide Philippine franchise of McDonald’s fast food chain.
With a successful streak, he and his companies have reaped numerous awards. His Alliance Global Group Inc. was named as the Most Admired ASEAN Enterprise in 2008 by the Asean Business Awards in Bangkok, Thailand. Megaworld was given the 2011 Southeast Asia’s Institutional Corporate Award for having the “Strongest Adherence to Corporate Governance.” He was conferred the Order of Lakandula, with the rank of Bayani — the highest award accorded to any individual by the Philippines.
AUF is grateful and proud to recognize that through Tan’s generosity, 19 financially challenged but deserving students are presently pursuing college in the university as Megaworld scholars.
