NCRPO to focus on street crimes

- Non Alquitran

Following the holiday season and the Feast of the Black Nazarene, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) will focus its attention on curbing street crimes, especially those perpetrated by criminals on motorcycles, an official said yesterday.

The NCRPO, with the help of local government units and the Philippine National Police, intends to buy more motorcycles and communication equipment, NCRPO chief Director Carmelo Valmoria said.

“We intend to purchase motorcycles because of their maneuverability in responding to cases involving (criminals) using motorcycles. They also consume only a small amount of gasoline compared to patrol cars,” Valmoria said, adding that the radio equipment would guide them in going after fleeing criminals.

He added that in a bid to prevent shootings in Metro Manila, they will also continue to confiscate loose firearms and those whose licenses were not renewed by their owners.

Valmoria will meet with his five district directors and 38 chief’s of police and station commanders today to map out strategies in preventing and solving crimes in Metro Manila.

According to Valmoria, they will continue to help secure malls and commercial centers and mobile patrol teams will be posted along busy streets and intersections to prevent crimes.

A few days after Valmoria assumed command of the NCRPO, robbers struck at jewelry kiosks in a Quezon City mall and a Zamboanga del Sur mayor and three others were killed in an ambush at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport terminal recently. –
