DAGUPAN CITY – The Science and Technology Information Institute in cooperation with the Department of Science and Tech- nology (STII-DOST) is set to hold a roadshow dubbed “Iba na ang Panahon: Science for Safer Communities” on May 5-6, at the Oasis Country Resort in La Union Province.

Engr. Felipe Andrada, DOST provincial director for Pangasinan, said the roadshow is a national information, education and communication (IEC) campaign that aims to enhance the capacity and ability of local government units (LGUs) and disaster managers in disaster risk reduction and mitigation, a report from the Provincial Information Agency in Pangasinan said.

“This is especially needed in the face of increasing occurrence and mega disasters with the strength of Yolanda and its massive impacts in terms of loss of lives, infrastructure damage and economy,” Andrada said in a statement.

The two-day event will introduce to the participants the regional, provincial and local perspective of hazards and perform a table-top exercise to stimulate LGU response in the face of mega disasters or natural hazards, he added. —
