Sorino, Po dominate jungolf

CEBU – Airon Sorino and Peter Tyler Po pulled off contrastin­g wins as players from host Cebu Country Club dominated the Philippine Golf Foundation Junior Masters Visayas leg by topping four of the six divisions.

Sorino started strong with a 74 then finished the job with an 80 for a 154 and a runaway victory in the boys 15-17 years while Po had rounds of 78-77 for a 155 and six-shot win in the boys 13-14 years.

Joaquin Velez and Keilla Wilson Choi picked up the other wins of CCC in the boys 11-12 years and girls 13-14 years, respective­ly, in the event sponsored by the Philippine Golf Foundation serving as the third leg of the ICTSI-Jungolf Summer Circuit.

The four CCC bets lead the nine qualifiers from the Visayas leg which is one of the four regional eliminatio­ns the standouts of which will advance to the national finals on May 2630 at Eagle Ridge.

Alta Vista’s Junia Gabasa and Joan Benjamir Hortellano nailed the other division titles.

Gabasa, one of two Cebu juniors who made it to the Junior World team, topped the girls 11-12 with her 77-77-154 while Hortellano (95-88-183) emerged the girls 15-17 years champion.

The PGF Series proceeds to Del Monte in Bukidnon for the Mindanao stop today and tomorrow. Mt. Malarayat in Lipa, Batangas hosts the Southern Luzon leg on May 21-22.

Also making it were Argie Quino, van Roy Zets, Russell Bautista, Daniel Jed Yap, Mark James Cannen, Russell Rex King, Angela Mangana and Hilary Ramirez.

Launched last year, the Philippine Golf Foundation is supporting the event anew as part of its talent developmen­t program that is expected to keep the jungolfers in shape for the big events lined up for them in the coming months.
