Rotary fellowship provides livelihood to Yolanda victims

A worldwide fellowship of Rotarians belonging to various Rotary Clubs in the country who love sailing and the preservati­on of the sea and its environs known as the Internatio­nal Fellowship of Rotarians (IYFR), has been uietly helping without much funfare some of the victims of typhoon Yolanda up to now. Recently, (as shown in photo), the IYFR donated 15 fishing boats each fitted with engine and fishing gears to the displaced fishermen of northern Cebu. And last April 27, another 45 fishing boats were given to the fishermen after the Philippine fleet bridge officers headed by Internatio­nal Vice-Commodore (IVC) Jun Avecilla, CA Max Tan and VC Joel Guillermo with RC Udo Pelkoski, RVC Sven-Olof tengelin, FC Pros Schlachmuy­lders made a return visit to Cebu for a continuing dialogue with Gov. Ed Chiongbian, PP Wilton Uykungtian, the district chairman of Disaster Risk Reduction and PP/senior AG Bernie Lumapas on the utilizatio­n of funds provided for emergency relief undertakin­gs of the Cebu District with the continuing help of the IYFR.

The Cebu Fleet of the IYFR will administer the distributi­on and management of the 60 fishing boats in Northern Cebu. This task will be undertaken specifical­ly by the recently formed IYFR in San Remigio, Cebu organized by PP/AG Tony Ynoc of the Rotary Club of Cebu Port Center and its 17 members plus various members of other Ceby Rotary Clubs which was also chartered last April 27.

The IYFR was first introduced in the Philippine­s last 2009 by IVC Jun Avecilla who was then president of the Rotary Club of Cubao West which thus became the first Philippine Fleet.

To date, there are already several fleets in the entire uezon City Rotary District 3780 and in Cebu. IYFR fleets are thus
