Phl issues deployment ban on new hires to Libya

The Philippine Overseas Employment Administra­tion POEA has imposed a deployment ban for new hires to Libya following the declaratio­n by the epartment of Foreign Affairs FA of Crisis Alert Level 2 in the war-torn country.

According to Labor ecretary osalinda aldoz, the POEA governing board has issued a resolution implementi­ng the temporary ban.

e are working closely with the FA in monitoring the situation in Libya. have instructed the Philippine Overseas Labor Office POLO in Tripoli to constantly keep in touch with the Filipino community in Libya and apprise them of the situation,” she said.

n a letter to aldoz, FA ecretary Albert del osario said the FA had raised the crisis alert level for Libya due to the continued deteriorat­ion of the political and security situation in that country.”

Alert Level 2 is issued when there are real threats to the life, security, and property of Filipinos from internal disturbanc­e and e ternal threats. This alert level re uires Filipinos staying in Libya to restrict non-essential movement, avoid public places and prepare for evacuation, should it become necessary.

Last week, the armed revolt in Libya escalated after a military officer called for the country’s top judicial authoritie­s to form a new presidenti­al council to take over until the ne t parliament elections.

On unday, the parliament building in Tripoli was stormed and ransacked by armed militias and the legislatur­e was declared suspended.

POEA records show that , 2 Filipinos were deployed to Libya in 2 13, most of whom are nurses, engineers, laborers, helpers, welders, flame cutters and wiremen.
