The Boots-King June 14 wedding entourage

Funfare Update,

- By Ricky Lo

It’s understandable why Boots AnsonRoa is excited about being a June Bride because, as you must have known, it’s the first time she’s having an en grande wedding since she and her late husband Pete Roa eloped and got married in a quiet, simple ceremony at a church in Pasay City.

Better late than never.

On June 14, Boots will exchange “I do’s” with King Rodrigo (a widower) at what could be the Wedding of the Year late afternoon at The Archbishop’s Palace Manila in Mandaluyong City after faithfully following step-by-step the Filipino tradition leading to the altar — you know, the courtship done with flowers and love poems (King is a poet), the innocent dating, the pamanhikan, the planning…the works! And, yes, as the title of an LVN movie proclaimed, Filipino custom no touch (that is, until the wedding night).

Will Boots cry at the wedding as she walks blushing down the aisle in a fabulous gown specially designed by Eddie Baddeo? Only family members and close relatives will witness it because, as the invitation says, “due to limited space in church, those invited are requested to proceed directly to the reception.”

I suppose the groom will be flashing a wide “I won, I won!” smile as he’s escorted by his mother, Remedios Enriquez Rodrigo, who is turning 100 on that day (now you know the significance of the date). After H.E. Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle declares them man and wife, King will finally (finally!) give his bride their first kiss (they were limited to holding hands during the courtship, no kidding!). Here’s the complete entourage: • Principal Sponsors: Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada and Ms. Susan Roces, Mr. Raul B. de Mesa and Ms. Marichu Vera Perez Maceda, Mr. Eduardo N. Roa and Ms. Cristina Xerez Burgos.
