MMDA lifts truck ban on selected routes

The Metropolit­an Manila Developmen­t Authority (MMDA) has suspended its truc ban on selected alternate routes to help address port congestion problems in Manila.

Acting on a resolution of the Metro Manila Council, the MMDA lifted the truc ban from 6 a.m. to 1 a.m. and from p.m. to 1 p.m. everyday except Friday, but only on designated routes for truc s throughout the day.

The lifting of the truc ban will be in effect for a six-month period or up to Dec. 1 .

The MMDA identified the alternate truc routes as those lin ing Manila’s Port Area to the South uzon Expressway (S E ) and the North uzon Expressway (N E ).

Truc s going to the Cavite Expressway can use R- 1 , straight ahead Roxas oulevard to Cavitex going to their destinatio­n.

Truc s headed to S E can ta e R-1 , A. onifacio straight to Roxas oulevard, left to Quirino, right to Osme a to S E to their destinatio­n.

From S E Cavitex to Port Area, truc s can ta e Roxas oulevard, straight ahead to Port Area, and from S E straight to Osme a, right to Quirino.

The MMC, in a four-page resolution, allowed truc s coming from Port Area in Manila to use a designated lane along Roxas oulevard except on Fridays.

Truc s are allowed to use the innermost lane along EDSA at any given time.

According to the MMDA, the truc lane along Roxas oulevard will be mar ed as such by the Department of Public or s and ighways.

The truc ban will remain in effect along EDSA and the other roads not identified as alternate truc routes, particular­ly C- Road, atipunan Avenue and Commonweal­th Avenue.

According to the MMC, there is a need to modify Metro Manila’s truc ban to decongest Port Area that has reached its full capacity level after the local government of Manila implemente­d its daytime truc ban on Feb. .

The daytime truc ban is enforced from p.m. to a.m. with a window period of between 1 p.m. and p.m.

According to the MMDA, , truc s and 1 ,61 trailers use Metro Manila’s roads everyday.
