- MERRYBETH S. SOLANA,

The hard lessons the nation learned from Ondoy, Habagat and killer typhoon Yolanda is a constant reminder that nature’s wrath is no joke and that climate change is contributing immensely to devastating typhoons, hurricanes, sand snow storms that is already being experienced around the world.

The military is now busy taking the necessary measures in preparation for the rainy season. Military personnel and reservists are also getting ready to respond if the need comes. The Philippine Air Force is also preparing their air assets for rescue and relief operations, which will be on standby. The PAF is also said to be readying their spare parts for planes and helicopters for speedy air operations in case another strong typhoon strikes the country again.

This was the scene we already saw last year, when our Army, Air Force, Navy, Marines, together with government agencies and volunteers dealt with typhoon Yolanda. The only difference is that our military is better prepared and the government sees to it that local government units have their own contingency plans to meet sudden weather disturbances which are out of the ordinary.

We thank them all for a job well done, and still being done especially in ravaged Tacloban City. We shall inspire today’s heroes for giving of themselves so generously and risk their lives many times. We pray for their strength of body and mind, and never give up against all dangers and odds they may face.
