- By IRIS C. GONZALES

Petron Corp., the country’s biggest oil refiner, announced over the weekend that its Bataan refinery has received the Integrated Management System IMS certifi cation for the sixth consecutive year.

The so-called IMS certification is given to facilities that adhere to global standards on safety, health, uality, and environmental management.

The certification is given only after a thorough and extensive audit. The international certification is given by Germany-based T S D, one of the world’s leading technical service providers.

An IMS integrates the Environmental Management System EMS, ISO , uality Management System MS, ISO S and Occupational ealth and Safety Management System O SMS, , according to Petron.

The O SMS is a set of standards that aim to reduce workplace hazards while an EMS is a set of accepted practices that enable an organization to reduce environmental impacts while increasing operating efficiency.

The MS, meanwhile, is a standard that ensures that customers get consistent, good uality products and services.

With the certification, Petron chairman and CEO Ramon Ang said the refinery continues to be a reliable supplier of premium fuels.

This distinction means that the Bataan refinery continues to be a reliable supplier of premium fuels to the country’s growing economy. Our stakeholders can be assured that we operate our largest facility in a safe and environment-friendly manner,” he said.

The Petron Bataan refinery has a refining capacity of , barrels-per-day and supplies nearly percent of the country’s fuel needs.

The company is currently expanding the refinery and is expected to become fully operational in .

The expansion will enhance the country’s supply security since it gives more flexibility to refine crude oil from various sources. More importantly, Petron will be capable of locally producing fuels that meet the more stringent Euro- environmental standard.
