Expect weekend traffic jams in QC – MMDA

- Mike Frialde

Motorists should brace for traffic gridlocks in Quezon City over the weekend as the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will repair parts of some major roads until Monday, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said yesterday.

In its advisory, the MMDA said the DPWH started the re-blocking and repair of major Quezon City roads at 10 p.m. yesterday.

Among the affected roads are C-5 Road, from Julia Vargas to CJ Caparas street (outermost southbound lane); Araneta Avenue from Del Monte Avenue to Maria Clara street (second lane, southbound); E. Rodriguez Jr. Avenue and C-5 Road between Mercury and Eastwood Avenue (third lane, southbound); Fairview Avenue from Doña Carmen to Winston street (third lane, northbound), and Congressional Avenue from Mindanao Avenue to April street (first lane, westbound).

The MMDA said motorists should use alternate routes until the roads are opened to traffic by 5 a.m. Monday.

Meanwhile, the MMDA also announced that the Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program (UVVRP) or the “number-coding scheme” will be suspended across Metro Manila on Monday (including Makati City) with the celebration of National Heroes Day, a public holiday.

The UVVRP is suspended during weekends and during public holidays.
