UST, PBCS to host int’l cancer conference
The University of Santo Tomas Hospital and the Philippine Breast Cancer Society, in collaboration with MD Anderson Cancer Center, will host a cancer conference entitled “Personalized Medicine in Breast Cancer: The MD Anderson and Asia-Pacific Experience” on Oct. 22-24 at the Fr. Buenaventura Garcia Paredes, OP Building of the University of Santo Tomas in Manila.
This is a multidisciplinary cancer conference that will feature experts in the field of breast cancer from MD Anderson Cancer Center, Organization for Oncology and Translational Research and several reputable institutions in the Philippines. Its prominent faculty from the USA, Japan, Hong Kong and the Philippines includes Constance Albarracin, MD, PhD, an associate professor of the Department of Pathology; Stacy Moulder, MD MSCI, an associate professor of the Department of Breast Medical Oncology; Gary Whitman, MD, a professor of Radiology. Drs. Albarracin, Moulder and Whitman are from the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, Texas, USA. Prof. Louis WingCheong Chow is the Medical Director of UNIMED Medical Institute in Hong Kong China and executive director of the Organization for Oncology and Translational Research based in Hong Kong, China. Drs. Melodia Geslani and Corazon Ngelangel are well-known in Breast Imaging and Medical Oncology respectively in the Philippines.
These experts in breast cancer care will come together on the first day of the multidisciplinary cancer conference. The second day will focus on the care for early stage breast cancer with Dr. Jose Rhoel de Leon, an associate professor of Surgery from Xavier University Ateneo de Cagayan University Dr. Jose P. Rizal College of Medicine; Dr. Gary Whitman, Professor of Diagnostic Radiology at the University of Texas MD Anderson Can- cer Center(UT-MDACC), Houston, Texas; Dr. Gildy Babiera, associate professor from the Department of Surgical Oncology of UT MDACC; Dr. Yun Wu, an associate professor from the Department of Pathology of the UT-MDACC; Dr. Stacy Moulder, associate professor of the Department of Breast Medical Oncology from UT-MDACC; Dr. Welela Tereffe, associate professor of the Department of Radiation Oncology and Dr. Masakazu Toi, president of the Organization for Oncology and Translational Research and a professor of Breast Surgery in Kyoto University sharing their insights.
On the third day, Dr. Priscilla Caguioa, associate professor and chief of the section of Medical Oncology of the University of Santo Tomas Hospital and Dr. Frederick Lang, professor, from the Department of Neurosurgery in University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center will delve into locally advanced and inflammatory breast cancer.
