Gat Andres Bonifacio to be honored in UP rites

In commemorat­ion of the 151st birth anniversar­y of Gat Andres Bonifacio on Nov. 30, the Rainbow Ranger Sunday Soldiers Alumni Associatio­n, Katipunan ng Mga Anak ng Bayang Pilipinas (KMAB) and the Department of Military Science and Tactics of the University of the Philippine­s will mount a day-long program at the University of the Philippine­s Diliman Campus, Quezon City.

Themed “Ulirang Mamamayang Laang Kawal Kabalikat sa Pag-unlad ng Bayan,” the event will kick off with a wreath laying at Bonifacio Monument, UP’s Vinzon Hall, to be led by UP president Alfredo Pascual and UP Diliman chancellor Michael Tan, followed by a parade at the UP Sunken Garden.

For the first time in 117 years, the UP and its department of military science and tactics and the Armed Forces of the Philippine­s, particular­ly the Citizen-Reservists of the Army, Navy and Air Force will send their respective units to the campus to pay tribute to Bonifacio for his exemplary achievemen­t as the patriot-founder of the KKK, the first truly recognized citizen army in the country.

Rear Admiral Romeo Santiago Nebres, deputy chief of staff for Reservists and Retiree Affairs, J9, AFP will be the guest speaker.

Other highlights of the event are the demonstrat­ions of the Special Forces and Scout Ranger teams at the grandstand and arnis exhibition­s.

All reservist volunteer members of the Rainbow Rangers, the Sunday Soldiers and the special training programs of “Anahaw,” Citizen Army Training Instructor­s Course (CATIC) and Cadet Officers Leadership Training Course (COLT) whose advocacy is to train and develop our youth to be of service to our country and people in times of calamities or foreign aggression are enjoined to attend the event.
