Largest business weekly BizNewsAsia marks 13th year, to honor 24 top CEOs and tycoons
BizNewsAsia marks its 13th anniversary and begins its 14th year of publishing history by honoring 24 of the Philippines’ leading CEOs, entrepreneurs and advocates tonight at the InterContinental Manila.
BizNewsAsia is the Philippines’ largest weekly business and news magazine. With a focus on the country, the economy and business, BizNewsAsia has a pass-on circulation of 350,000 readers.
BizNewsAsia was founded in 2001 by veteran journalist Antonio S. Lopez, its president, publisher and CEO. Manila didn’t have any local weekly news magazine nor a weekly business magazine in 2001.
Lopez seized the opportunity, using his experience as senior correspondent for 25 years of Hong Kong-based Asiaweek and his many years as business writer/editor for major Manila dailies. As a correspondent, he made Asiaweek No. 1 and put the Philippines on the world map. He was Manila’s youngest business editor.
He finished journalism, magna cum laude, on a four-year full scholarship at UST, three semesters of MBA studies at Ateneo, and global journalism from the University of Stockholm. He is a TOYM winner and Outstanding Manilan for international journalism, UST’s Most Outstanding Thomasian in arts and letters, a founding member of FOCAP, and the only six-time president of MOPC.
To be honored as CEO of the Year is Ramon S. Ang, president of San Miguel Corp. and CEO of Petron Corp. RSA is being honored for reshaping SMC into the Philippines’ biggest conglomerate with P1.17 trillion in assets, P800 billion in sales, and P32 billion in profits, with strong presence in petroleum, power generation, tollways, water, airport, mass transit, and mining.
